I made this a long time ago for Kieran before but he didn't take to it then. However, he tasted it at USS when we last went and he liked it. So here it is.
Ingredients
1 pkt agar powder
1 small pkt coconut milk (Kara brand, 200ml)
3 chunks, (~ 4 tablespoons) Gula Melaka, chopped into small pieces
Method
Make the agar according to package instructions (usually is 1l water to 1 pkt powder) but reducing amount of water used by 200ml (for the coconut milk).
Bring to a gentle boil.
Turn down the heat and add the coconut milk.
Stir well and transfer to cooling containers.
Note:
For a homogenous opaque jelly:
Stir continuously while pouring and use small containers so that the jelly cools and solidifies faster.
For a 2 layered jelly (translucent brown at the bottom, opaque at the top):
Use a larger container so that the coconut milk floats as it slowly solidifies.
Use less coconut milk.
